The Heroes Fund, Inc. is a non-profit organization, set up specifically to provide support to US troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan by providing monthly shipments of health and comfort items and non-perishable foods for company-sized units (150 troops). The Heroes Fund is an IRS-approved 501(c)3 public charity so all donations are fully tax deductible. 100% of the contributions go to supporting the troops since all administration and logistics support is provided by volunteers.
 The Heroes Fund is currently providing support to the Bulldogs of Bravo Company, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 187th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, known as the “Rakkasans”, deployed to Paktia Province in Afghanistan. Bravo Company has been deployed since January 2010 and will rotate back to Fort Campbell after 12 months in theater. When Bravo Company redeploys, the Heroes Fund will adopt another unit in Iraq or Afghanistan and provide the same type of support.
A typical shipment costs approximately $3500 to provide the targeted amount of $25-30 per soldier. The purchasing of the items, packaging and shipment is all done by volunteers, so the only costs are for the soldiers’ items, packing materials and postage.
